Dr. Joe Dillard Receives 2023 Jack Kenney Award for Outstanding Service

Author: George A. O’Toole

Since 2009, we have conferred the Jack Kenney Award for Outstanding Service to the reviewer who does extraordinary service for the journal. Jack was an outstanding production editor who retired in 2010; he died shortly after his retirement.

I am pleased to announce that Joe Dillard is the 2023 recipient of this award. He is pictured here with his award.

Dr. Dillard is a Professor of Medical Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Dillard’s research focuses on the pathogenesis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Gardnerella vaginalis. He uses human organ culture models of infection to understand the tissue damage of gonococcal pelvic inflammatory disease and the dysbiosis of bacterial vaginosis. Extensive research has gone into understanding cell wall metabolism in gonococci and fallopian tube responses to peptidoglycan fragments. His lab recently developed methods for mutagenesis of Gardnerella species.

Over the past year, Dr. Dillard reviewed eight manuscripts for JB—tops for someone who is not currently on the Editorial Board.”
